CEU’s Shattuck Center for Human Rights Broadens Social Justice Scope

Recent shifts in parts of the world towards populism and authoritarianism require broadened attention to an increasingly wide range of contexts in which human rights are being curtailed. While major conflicts, such as the war in Ukraine, are glaring environments where abuse of power has impacted human rights, social justice is currently at stake in a variety of arenas even in established democracies, from migration and women’s health, to debates over censorship in education.

Given the importance and challenges of measuring corruption, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the International Anti-corruption Academy (IACA), joined efforts to organize the “Global Conference on Harnessing Data to Measure Corruption”.

Politico publishes paper produced as part of Marius Dragomir's course

Politico Europe published an article that was produced as part of “Journalistic research and investigation”, a practical course conducted by Marius Dragomir at CEU during the last winter term. Designed as a newsroom, the class consisted of a team of 13 CEU students who have reported on abortion rights for three months. They interviewed activists, doctors, experts, NGOs and politicians, investigating whether a ban of abortion is likely to be imposed in Europe.
