Vienna, May 2025 — Central European University (CEU) is proud to announce that Professor Martin Kahanec, from the Department of Public Policy, has been appointed as one of the members of the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors to the European Commission.
Assistant Professor Cameran Ashraf was appointed by the German Government to the Council of Experts for the International Freedom of Religion or Belief Alliance (IRFBA). IRFBA is a network of 38 states which brings together senior government representatives to discuss actions their nations can take together to promote respect for freedom of religion or belief and protect members of religious minority groups worldwide. Household surveys in sub-Saharan Africa collect important location-based information on age, income and health of Africans that support health and development efforts. Scientists and practitioners alike often assume this data is equally good everywhere, but no one has closely looked at how data quality might vary across different parts of a country. In this study, we examined the quality of recent household survey data in 35 African countries, looking at village areas (5×5 km) and districts.
