On April 21-22, Central European University (CEU) students participated in the workshop “Budgeting for Human Rights: Why Government Budgets are Important for Realizing Human Rights,” organized by the Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) in collaboration with the School of Public Policy (SPP) at CEU. Participants included Roxana Damian (MPA ’15) from SPP and Edi Sara (MA ’15) from the Department of Public Policy.

The School of Public Policy at Central European University (SPP) in partnership with the Central European University Institute for Advanced Study (CEU IAS) in Budapest, and the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin are launching a fellowship program for researchers and public policy practitioners from nine countries (Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, and Turkey).

“Quiet diplomacy is a common tool to promote human rights but because it happens behind closed doors, we usually know very little about it. Of course it can be useful, yet that is not always the case,” explains SPP Visiting Professor Katrin Kinzelbach. Her book, The EU's Human Rights Dialogue with China: Quiet Diplomacy and its Limits was just published by Routledge.

“I don’t want to say mind-blowing, but I can’t think of another word to describe the experience,” reflected Rumbidzai Masango (MPA ’15) on her summer with the Open Society Internship for Rights and Governance (OSIRG). This past summer, five School of Public Policy (SPP) students participated in OSIRG, a highly competitive program that allows selected students from top public policy schools to undertake six- to eight-week internships at policy- and rights-oriented NGOs around the world.
