More than 240 scholars from 32 countries are gathering in Budapest this week for the 2017 European Public Choice Society (EPCS) conference. The annual EPCS conference is the premier gathering for political economists and quantitative political scientists in Europe. It meets every year at a different location. Previous meetings have been held at the University of Freiburg (2016), the Zernike Campus of the University of Groningen (2015), and the University of Cambridge (2014). “We are especially pleased to be hosting the EPCS conference this year. It is a terrific opportunity to showcase CEU’s research excellence and its new state-of-the-art conference facilities to a broad and distinguished audience,” commented Conference Co-chair and CEU Associate Professor Michael Dorsch.
The four-day conference will feature 67 panels on a wide range of topics including Non-Democratic Political Economy, Voting Behavior, Refugees and Asylum, Rent-Seeking, Economics of Tolerance and Extremism, and the Political Economy of Inequality. This year’s conference will also be the occasion for two book launches: of the Oxford Handbook of Public Choice and IMF’s Fiscal Politics. There will also be keynote addresses by University of Essex Professor Catherine De Vries; Gérard Roland, who is the E. Morris Cox Professor of Economics and Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley; and Jean-Robert Tyran, who is a professor of public economics at the University of Vienna.
