Katalin Nemeth (MPA '16) has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for the 2016-17 academic year. She will pursue a research project at the Penn State College of Education under Professor Kai A. Schafft.

"I plan to research how countries can establish education policies that increase the effectiveness of education systems in serving minorities," Nemeth explained. During her year at Penn State, she will study the case of Native Americans in the U.S. education system, collecting data through interviews with a variety of stakeholders.

Her interest in education policy stemmed from her undergraduate years when she pursued her BA in Education. Recently, she became more interested in leadership in education through an internship last summer with the European Policy Network on School Leadership (EPNoSL). Nemeth worked on a project on decentralizing education, learning how European and national policies influence education systems.

"I hope to be able to conduct a rigorous comparison of the European and American education systems after my Fulbright year," Nemeth said, "and see how we can improve education systems at home in Europe."
