Journalism Class at DPP Launches New Cross-Border Investigation

A cohort of 12 students in the “Journalistic research and investigation” course at CEU’s DPP launched a new cross-border investigation earlier this month. Conducted by lecturer Marius Dragomir, the course, now in its fourth year, is designed to familiarize students with how a journalistic investigation is conducted.

The Shattuck Center participates in the Human Forum

CEU’s Shattuck Center participated in the Human Forum in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, on November 28th – 30th, 2023. Initiated by the civic platform NOT IN OUR TOWN in Banská Bystrica, the Human Forum attracts hundreds of civil society organizations, activists, politicians, businesspeople, and academics who each year come together to discuss topics of Human Rights, participation, mobilization, democracy, and civil society in Slovakia, Central and Eastern Europe, and beyond.

Mihaly Fazekas publishes paper in Public Choice

DPP Associate Professor Mihály Fazekas published a paper in Public Choice, co-authored with Emmanuel Wittberg. The article looks at whether corruption risks in public procurement impact the profitability of firms in the Swedish construction industry. Unlike previous studies linking corruption and firm performance in high corruption risk environments, the authors look at Sweden which is known to be clean.

Felix Butzlaff discusses the rise of right-wing populism with Robert Misik and Tanja Wehsely at Theater Arche

On Tuesday, Oct 17th, DPP’s Felix Butzlaff took part in a panel on the rise of right-wing populism and the demise of traditional Social Democracy at Theater Arche in Vienna. The event took place after a play which brought Robert Misik’s political essay on “The false friends of the ordinary people” to the stage.
