CEU’s Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Program in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP) has been awarded renewed external funding to support the continuation and expansion of the two-year transnational joint master’s degree program for another five years. The grant of 5,472,000 euros, awarded by the European Union (EACEA) under the Erasmus+ framework, will enable the training of 160 students from across the world and the hosting of 16 fellows. It will also provide financial support in the form of scholarships for more than 90 students and contribute toward the instruction and administrative costs of program delivery and implementation.

“This funding will substantively support our intellectually inspiring and academically robust program, allowing CEU to continue its mission of providing equal opportunities and an enabling and empowering learning experience to new generations of students worldwide, including those from the global South and less privileged backgrounds,” said Martin Kahanec, Professor and Head of CEU’s Department of Public Policy. “The renewed support of the European Union further testifies to the excellence and relevance of Mundus MAPP.”

Mundus MAPP, a flagship program of CEU’s Department of Public Policy, has been running for more than 15 years, first as a double degree and since 2012, as an integrated joint degree. It offers four specializations across four mobility tracks: Global Public Policy, European Public Policy, Political Economy and Development, Governance and Development.

CEU is the coordinating institution for the program, and cooperates closely with the International Institute for Social Studies of the University of Rotterdam, the University of York, and the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals.  The program is accredited in all the countries of the main academic partner institutions, and since 2022, also under the European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Degrees.

The program is further supported by a broad range of associated professional partners, including local authorities, NGOs, think tanks and policy research institutes, such as the City of ViennaTransparency InternationalStichting Transnational InstituteEnergy Policy GroupVienna Institute for Economic StudiesOpen Society European Policy InstituteFriedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Regional Office for Cooperation and the Media and Journalism Research Center. In the fall, Matej Bel University in Slovakia will join as a new associated academic partner. Building on the complementary expertise and academic excellence of the main partner institutions, and close coordination and cooperation within the consortium, the program is now established as one of the leading public policy programs in Europe.

“The Department of Public Policy remains committed to public policy in a transnational context, where this important program is at the forefront. I am proud of the department's team for their work in securing this award and am delighted that the European Union will continue to support the Mundus MAPP program.” said Michael Dorsch, Associate Professor and Head of CEU’s Department of Public Policy from fall of 2023.

“This grant will help ensure that deserving and talented students from all over the world can benefit from first class education in public policy and mobility opportunities, irrespective of their national or social background,” said Marie-Pierre Granger, Associate Professor and Director of the Mundus MAPP Program. “It will also support the introduction of novel features in the program, such as a strengthened practical component with innovative skills workshops and better tailored practice opportunities developed in close cooperation with the professional partners, as well as a new winter school and the development of a strong alumni network.”
