School of Public Policy (SPP) Dean Wolfgang H. Reinicke is one of three guest editors, with Associate Director of the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) Philipp Rotmann and GPPi Director Thorsten Benner, of a special issue of Conflict, Security and Development. “Major Powers and the Contested Evolution of a ‘Responsibility to Protect’” contains contributions from a team of researchers from Brazil, China, Europe, and India. The special issue is part of a project on “Global Norm Evolution and the Responsibility to Protect” that is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. CEU is a partner in this project with IRES assistant professor Xymena Kurowska serving as lead researcher and author of the article on Russia’s attitude vis-à-vis the Responsibility. Pre-published versions of the articles in the special issue are available for download for free on the project’s website.
“The ‘Responsibility to Protect’ is one of the most challenging public policy issues of our time and one that we have explored at the School,” said Reinicke. “Former Australian Foreign Minister and SPP distinguished visiting professor Gareth Evans, for example, gave a compelling public lecture in May.”
