The monument is located by the Danube between Roosevelt and Kossuth ter. 60 pairs of metal shoes embedded in concrete on the Danube embankment commemorate the victims of the mass executions committed by the pro-Nazi, national socialist Arrow Cross militia in 1944-45.
We come from many parts of the world and diverse cultures. But try - if you dare - one pair that fits you; and I am sure we all share the same horrendous feeling. But please do not give up on your hopes for a better world and try to find out who Károly Szabó and Pál Szalai were.
