He combines insights from economics and related disciplines with causal inference tools and lab, lab-in-the-field, and observational data to study social problems. Recent research includes studying the impact of conflicts on India's economy, the long shadow of the Habsburg imperial history on contemporary behaviors, and the beliefs and norms affecting voting behavior in developing countries. Before CEU, Anand worked at the University of California, Merced. At CEU, besides the mandatory economics courses for policy, Anand teaches electives on development themes and causal inference methods. His book Demystifying Causal Inference,  with Vikram Dayal, is forthcoming in Fall 2023.
