DPP professor Kahanec and former DPP professor Goldthau present at CEU - WIIW Anniversary Conference

DPP professor and head of department Martin Kahanec and former DPP professor Andreas Goldthau presented at the ‘Early Millennial Transformations: Integration, Inequality, and Insecurity in Europe and the World’ Conference at the Central European University in Vienna. The event was organised on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of WIIW and the 30th anniversary of CEU, and hosted numerous speakers between 22-23 September 2022.

The conference gathered outstanding scholars to reflect on an era of historical turning points and complex and partly radical changes in Europe and the World, as well as celebrate CEU’s record and scholarly contribution to the challenging problems of our time.

DPP professor and head of department Martin Kahanec and former DPP professor Andreas Goldthau presented their papers in the session titled ‘Transborder Movements Of Capital and Labor, Conflicts and Their Remedies’. This session focused on the transborder mobility of capital, labour, and finance, and how policies and social movements react and also attempt to mitigate the problems associated with international integration and structural change in the world economy. Professor Kahanec’s paper addressed the questions of labour market and migration from an economical perspective in his paper Migrants and labor markets: Vicious or virtuous economics-politics cycles?, while Professor Goldthau’s paper, titled After Ukraine. Wither European energy security? discussed the current issues of energy security.
